The Reia pessary is a “space occupying" pessary and changes in pelvic support may improve or worsen incontinence symptoms. With the correct Reia pessary size, you should feel relief from your symptoms. If you feel discomfort, like when a tampon sits too low, refer to the instructions for tips on how to place the Reia pessary in the right spot. If you feel any other discomfort, you may need a different size and should talk to your practitioner.

Typically, no. The stem is usually inside the body. Some people may notice the end of the pessary near the opening of their vagina. If it sits too low and causes discomfort, talk to your practitioner.

Yes! The Reia pessary is designed to be easy and comfortable to remove any time. We recommend removing it for penetrative sex.

We recommend you remove it nightly if you can. Made from 100% medical grade silicone, it is also safe to leave in for longer periods. For a more individualized recommendation, please consult your practitioner, who can provide guidance based on your medical history.

Silicone is known to absorb and retain some odors from its environment, even after thorough cleaning with soap and water. Like other products worn in the same area, such as menstrual cups or diaphragms, the pessary will naturally absorb odor from its environment over time. The presence of odor on the pessary does not necessarily mean there are also worrisome bacteria.

We have conducted testing and confirmed that odor retention is common across many pessary brands - it is a characteristic of silicone material, not a sign that something is wrong with you or your pessary.

Here are a few suggestions that may help:

• We found letting the pessary sit in open air to be the most impactful at reducing odor. If you commonly remove your pessary overnight or store your pessary between uses, you may find that leaving it out to air dry overnight makes a noticeable difference.

• Avoid prolonged soaking, as this can sometimes make odors more noticeable.

• You can try using a soft-bristled brush when cleaning - this can help you clean harder-to-reach areas.

If a strong odor continues even with regular cleaning, we recommend checking in with your healthcare provider to make sure nothing else may be contributing.

It is safe to use any liquid hand or dish soap. We do not have any specific brands that we recommend!

You can use any water-based lubricant. Many people find KY Jelly (classic) to be a reliable and widely available option.

The Reia pessary comes in 3 sizes and is fit by a healthcare practitioner. There are two ways for your practitioner to determine the proper size for your Reia pessary: (1) using a fitting kit which contains pessaries you can try at the office for size or (2) using a fitting guide which maps the sizes of other commonly used pessaries (rings and Gellhorns) to Reia.
